A
Simple Overview of the Immunocal Science
The
Discovery of Immunocal: Dr.
Bounous and his staff at the McGill University Immunology
Department were investigating the
differing effects of various protein food sources in the face of
chemically induced colon cancer.
1. Various groups of
white mice were each being fed a different type of protein,
while being injected with a chemical that caused colon cancer 100% of
the time.
2.
After 4 weeks, each group of mice was dissected and the
research
was showing the colon cancer had metastasized and spread throughout the
body.
3. Dr. Bounous received a box of a "whey" that was
being dumped in the rivers of France, in an effort to find a useful
solution to the environmental problem being caused by disposing of this
apparently useless bi-product of the cheese making process, which is
"whey protein".
4. The experiment continued and this time, the
mice, under the same conditions and testing parameters, were fed the
"whey protein".
5. When this group of mice were dissected, much
to the surprize of Dr. Bounous and his staff, the cancer did not
metastasize and in fact remained in the colon as healthy pink tumors,
indicating that this protein source inhibited the growth of the cancer.
EUREKA!?!? - NOT SO FAST...
This
was the original discovery, but the road ahead was not paved so
perfectly and as good science goes, the experiments had to continue, to
reproduce this discovery over and over again...
As
a few years time passed, the results continued until a point that the
result ABRUPTLY STOPPED!!!
For
a 2 or 3 year time frame, Dr. Bounous and his staff could not reproduce
the result and they had no idea why this had occurred. Experiment after
experiment was resulting in the same unsuccessful outcome.
The
EUREKA moment occurred one evening, while Dr. Bounous was at home,
watching a cooking show on the television. During the program, the chef
indicated that the recipe he was preparing had recently changed in it's
taste because of new laws that had been implemented, requiring that the
milk and cheese making process be changed to reduce levels of bacteria
from the raw milk sources - THEY CHANGED THE PASTEURIZATION
TEMPERATURE!!!
Dr.
Bounous returned to the lab the next day and
began preparations to produce their own "whey protein" from their own
raw milk source, pasteurized at a lower temperature and VOILA, the
experiments began to produce that same cancer inhibiting effect. When
it came time to share this product with the world and a business was
formed, this whey formulation was given a name. THIS WAS THE BIRTH OF

Dr.
Gustavo Bounous
Dr. Bounous developed the method for
the production of undenatured whey protein which was given the
proprietary name Immunocal. It became the standard by which all other
whey products eventually had to be measured. Dr. Gustavo Bounous is the
world renowned scientist who discovered Immunocal.
The late Dr. Droge
was the first to describe the effect of glutathione on the immune
response of a living organism (1986) and to discover the abnormally low
cysteine and glutathione levels in HIV patients (1988/1989). In a
series of clinical studies, Dr. Droge investigated the effects of
cysteine supplementation on the immune system in healthy humans and HIV
patients and on weight loss in cachectic cancer patients. Until his untimely passing,
Dr. Droge was actively engaged in the design of clinical studies and
organized research activities in cooperation with colleagues at McGill
University and other leading scientific institutions. Dr. Droge
devoted more than forty years to basic and clinical research that form
the basis for the design of safe, effective new Immunotec products such
as Immunocal Platinum.
Dr. Droge was Senior Vice
President of Research and Development at Immunotec.
Patricia
Kongshavn received her Honors Degree in Natural Sciences as
a Major Scholar at Cambridge University, and completed her doctorate in
Immunology at McGill University after immigrating to Canada. She
subsequently joined the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University and
held appointments in the Departments of Physiology and Medicine,
becoming Full Professor in 1986. Her research was funded by independent
grants to her from the Medical Research Council of Canada, the National
Cancer Institute of Canada and the National Institutes of Health in the
United States.
Her
main research was concerned with increasing basic knowledge of
the immune system, with a focus on cellular immunology, host/parasite
interactions and the genetics of natural resistance.
In
the mid-1970’s she began collaboration initiated by Dr. Gustavo
Bounous to research the influence of various dietary proteins on immune
responsiveness. They published their first paper on this research in
1978 and continued their collaboration until 1989, during which period
they co-authored 14 papers. This work led to the discovery of the
undenatured whey protein concentrate that regulated glutathione levels
and promoted immune enhancing activity. This led ultimately to the
production of the high quality bioactive nutraceutical: IMMUNOCAL.
My name is Eugene Kralik and I am 98 years old. My body parts of course are old and have been well used.
When you get close to 100 years old it is expected that your eye sight and hearing are starting to fail and legs of course are getting weaker. However what I am excited about is that my mind is relatively good and I think I am the only senior in this nursing home who is not on any daily dose of drugs.
